START4CHEM-Labs – The right infrastructure for your start-up idea

As part of the Worldfactory Start-up Centre, we have been advising people interested in founding a company related to chemistry or biochemistry since 2019. With the START4CHEM Labs, we offer you not only advice but also laboratory space for your product and process developments. With the START4CHEM Labs, we are creating an important basis for work and success for those interested in founding a company. To this end, we offer laboratory and coworking space on the Ruhr University campus in the BioMedicineCentre Bochum (BMZ), which is exclusively available to those interested in founding a company.

In the labs, you have the opportunity to get to know other people interested in founding a company, to network and, of course, to work on your idea with your team.

Here you have the chance to get to know other scientists interested in founding a company, to network and, of course, to work on your idea with your team.

We offer you space for ideas

In the START4CHEM labs, we offer scientists interested in founding a company the opportunity to work on their projects, experiment and further develop their start-up ideas. For this purpose, we offer chemical laboratories with basic equipment as well as open spaces that can be used for your own facilities. Members of the start-up teams can use flexible workspaces in the coworking area.

The labs offer you

There are currently two small laboratories equipped with laboratory benches, digestions, safety cabinets for storing hazardous substances, glassware and consumables. Further basic equipment will be added for these labs during the second quarter of 2023. A ready-made coworking room with two workstations and an internet connection is also available.

  • a coworking space (flexible workstations for start-up teams)
  • a break room
  • a meeting room
  • Chemical laboratories:
    • 2 individual laboratories (equipped with laboratory benches, digestions, safety cabinets for storing hazardous substances, glassware and consumables, among other things – available for immediate use)
    • 3 shared laboratories with open spaces for setting up your own equipment (currently in planning, expected to be usable from the second half of 2024)
